"Died in his home at Grand Valley Oklahoma, June 26th, 1901, Emanuel Fritz, in the 90th year of his age,...He was born, reared and thrice married in Clark county, Kentucky. About 50 years ago he moved to Madison county, Ky., and locating near where Waco now stands, made for himself a home before that fair-famed village had an existence. Here he raised a family of four sons and five daughters. He was thrice married. By the first and last unions, one daughter and one son were born. By the second, eight children were born and raised. He was a man of industrious and temperate habits; an affectionate and indulgent husband; a generous and loving father, an obliging neighbor, and an upright and honorable citizen. He seemed to find a warm place in the hearts of all who knew him. He was modest and retiring in his disposition; warm hearted; tenacious in his friendships - never forgetting, a kindness. It has often been said of him that his word was his bond, and that he was never known to be guilty of a mean action. In 1859 he united with the Baptist church at Waco, Ky., where he lived a consistent and faithful member until in 1886, when he gathered together the remnant of what had been his belongings, and with his wife, much younger than himself, and their little son George, he bade an affectionate farewell to his older children and neighbors, and turned lis face to the far west. Of the cares and privations incident to frontier life, the vicissitudes through which he passed amid the scenes of southern Kansas and Oklahoma, the writer of this imperfect sketch, knows but little; but the associations and sacred memories of more than forty years acquaintance with him, is indelibly impressed upon my memory." |
