Sighting of John Dillinger 1934 "Mr. Jack Kaylor said that he once frequented the Ford garage and often saw a pamphlet that was printed, in those days of Dillinger. On the front, it said: "Will they catch Dillinger?" ", then it opened to read: "Not 'til they get him out of a Ford V-8!" Mr. Kaylor once told Joe Pinkston about the pamphlet that he searched high and low and finally found one at a Ford Co. in the northern part of Indiana. He then sent a copied one to Mr. Kaylor. Then Mr. Kaylor told of the time when he and his brother Bob were driving their wagon and team of horses along Morgan Street in Martinsville, on April, 7, 1934, when a new dark green Ford pulled in behind them from the Old Morgantown Road. Mr. Kaylor was riding on the back of the wagon and found himself looking right at John Dillinger. He got his brother's attention and ask him if it was Dillinger behind them. Bob looked closely and agreed that it was. Dillinger saw them and grinned and waved. It was said that Dillinger had escaped from Crown Point and had been hiding in Brown County. The following week, the Indianapolis paper printed the story that John Dillinger had eaten fried chicken at his folks' house in Mooresville on Sunday and he had been driving a dark green Ford with Illinois license plates. So it was said that "it had been Dillinger" that the Kaylors had seen that day in a dark green Ford, with Illinois license plates. It was April, and on July 26, 1934, John Dillinger was shot and killed. Mr. Kaylor still recalls the vivid sighting of John Dillinger."
Jerry C. Kaylor WW II Memorabilia 2001 "On Nov. 11, a day of honor for all Morgan County veterans who served during the 20th Century, the hallways of Martinsville High School and the principal's lobby will take on the look of both WWII and today's modern U.S. Army....Like so many other collectors, the couple's passion has spread to other family members. Steve's niece, Nikki Gadd, is developing an interest in this old WWII memorabilia. Her appearance at Sunday's Veterans Day Tribute and Fundraiser will likely bring cheers and fond memories to the auditorium full of old WWII veterans. Nikki, daughter of Charles and Lana Gadd (and granddaughter of Rufford and Judy Gadd, all from Martinsville) will wear the "Dress Blues" of a real "Home-town Hero" from Eminence, Jerry C. Kaylor. Kaylor served with the South Pacific U.S. Marine Fleet forces that fought those bloody campaigns on Guam and Guadalcanal. During his tour of duty (1942-45), Kaylor saw combat in some of the most vital battles of WWII. Now retired, except for some farming, Kaylor will no doubt feel a special sense of pride when a young patriot from a long line of Gadd patriots walks to her place at the microphone to pay honor to the women who served in WWII. Nikki will not only look the part, she'll bring honor to Jerry Kaylor, Bill Pearson, Bill Nutter, "Bud" Grow, Bill Hastings, and the countless other Morgan County "boys" who proudly wore those Dress Blue colors in that war more than 56 years ago."
Damage action filed 1946 Strange suit against William Kaylor. Kaylor apparently loaned a car to Hilda and Ralph Moore, who were then involved in an accident with William Taylor. Taylor names Kaylor as a defendant with the Moore's seeking $800 in damages: "William S. Taylor asks $800 damages as the result of an automobile collision July 6 with Hilda and Ralph Moore. The Moore's and W. W. Kaylor are named as defendants in the proceedings. Mr. Taylor avers that the accident occurred two miles northeast of Eminence at a highway intersection, and charges two of the defendants, Hilda and Ralph Moore, with traveling at an excessive rate of speed and failing to exercise proper caution in crossing the intersection. The automobile driven by the Moore's was owned by Mr. Kaylor, who also is listed as a defendant. Plaintiff asks the damages for his 1938 Ford Tudor, which he claims, was demolished by the collision."
Car accident suit continued 1948 Several newspaper reports chronicle the progress of the car accident suit as it winds its way the the courts. This article summarizes the status of the suit 18 months on from the accident. William Taylor has upped his damages claim substantially. Injuries to children involved are mentioned for the first time. Oddy Taylor only asks for payment ($10,000) for injuries to himself. Kaylor has asked to be excused from the suit entirely: "The suit resulted from an accident July 6, 1946, when the plaintiff, a five and a half-year-old child, was injured when the car occupied by the Moores collided with the one in which he was riding near Eminence. Damages of $5,000 are asked. The car driven by Moore was owned by W. W. Kaylor. Mr. Kaylor recently filed his answer to a damage complaint of William S. Taylor, in connection with the same accident. In this suit, Taylor asked $800 damages to the car and $10,000 for injuries to himself."
Damage suits against William Kaylor dismissed 1948 Over two years after first filing, the damages suits against William Kaylor related to the Jul 1946 car accident between the William Taylor and the Moores are dismissed. Taylor's suits targeting the Moore's who were driving Kaylor's car and caused the accident apparently continue: "Two damage suits, naming W. W. Kaylor as defendant, have been dismissed by the plaintiff, with permission of the court. One suit was filed by William S. Taylor and the other by Robert Taylor, by his next friend, William S. Taylor. Other defendants in the suits, which are the result of an auto accident last winter, are Hilda and Ralph Moore." Never clear who the "next friend" Robert Taylor was and how he was involved in the incident. Note the children mentioned in the previous article have gone missing again.
