    • Mathias Fisher married Martha Thompson, who died August, 1828. Her father was a staunch Presbyterian and objected to the marriage on the grounds that Mathias Fisher had never been baptized. However, she had no such scruples and left her father’s house, never to enter it again. Following the marriage they settled on a part of the old Fisher farm. [8]
    • He paid his addresses to Miss Martha Thompson, but her father being a staunch Presbyterian, objected to the match because Mr. Fisher had never been baptized. Miss Thompson, however, had no such scruples of conscience, but ran away, as they called it then; she left her father’s house and never entered it again. [9]

  • Notes 
    • After bequest of ninety acres to Mary McDowel, Abel Fisher inherits the remaining interest in his uncle Abel Fisher Sr's land on his uncle's death in 1838: "I give and bequeath to my niece Mary McDowel ninety acres of the plantation or tract of land whereon I now reside and the same held in common with my brother Mathias and myself containing altogether two hundred and eighty two acres. The said ninety acres to be struck off the south west side or part of the whole adjoining the heirs of Michael Fry lands of James Campbell and lands of George Kern to be enjoyed by her the said Mary McDowel her heirs and assigns forever. And the balance of my right title interest and claim of in and to said land I bequeath to my nephew Abel Fisher his heirs and assigns forever." [12]
    • Received the bulk of his father Mathias Fisher's estate on Mathias' death in 1834: " I give and bequeath to my son Abel Fisher his heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns all my right title, interest, property and claim of in and to the plantation or tract of land whereon I now reside being the undivided one-half of two hundred and eighty two acres." Abel was also appointed Executor of his father's will: "And I do nominate and appoint my said son Abel Fisher Executor of this my last will hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto let my hand this seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three. Mathias Fisher." [13]
