FARRIS Mary Ann

-
Name FARRIS Mary Ann Birth 9 Mar 1850 Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL [1, 2]
- Death Certificate reads:
Born: 9 Mar 1850, Hire Township, Illinois
Father: Nathan Farris; born Kentucky
Mother: Elizabeth Hungate; born Kentucky
CENSUS 1855 Township 6N Range 4W, McDonough Co., IL [3]
- Census listing for mother Elizabeth Farris' household. Mary Ann presumably one of the two females listed under age 10, although she would have likely been age 10 at then time because it appears the census was taken after the death of Mary's father In July 1855. Were Nathan still alive he would have been listed as the head of the household.
1855 Illinois State Census: Township 6N Range 4W, McDonough Co., IL, Image 9 CENSUS 27 Jun 1870 Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL [4]
- Mary listed with her parents and still under her maiden name even though she was married by this time to Thomas Fisher and is also listed on the following page with her new family.
1870 US Census: Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL p 5 CENSUS 28 Jun 1870 Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL [5]
- Mary counted twice in the 1870 census. She is listed first with her mother Elizabeth Farris' family on Jun 27 and then again on Jun 28 with her husband Thomas Fisher and daughter Lena. Interestingly her age is listed as 22 on Jun 27 and 21 on Jun 28. She would in fact have been 21 when the census was taken.

- Keeping house
1880 US Census: E. D. No. 77 Locust Hill, Knox Co., MO, p 12 CENSUS 11 Jun 1900 Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL [7]
- Birthplace of Thomas' parents should read Pennsylvania not Kentucky. Also lists birthplace of Lena's father as Kentucky when two lines earlier it is correctly shown as Illinois. Census taker's work appears prone to mistakes given these errors and the many errors in the entry for the family of Thomas' son Charles Fisher which immediately follows in the census.
1900 US Census: E. D. No. 57, Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL, sht 5A CENSUS 15 Apr 1910 Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL [8]
- Census correctly shows only one child still alive in 1910: Charles.

Documents Richard Bond surprise birthday part 1904
Celebrating Richard's 70th birthday. May friends and family attendedThomas Fisher witness to murder 1912
"A little after eight o'clock on last Saturday night residents of south main street were startled by a loud pistol shot and the sound of a buggy being driven toward the south at a furious gait. An hour later the lifeless body of Asa Langford was found lying in the road almost in front of the Thos Fisher home with a bullet from a 32 calibre revolver embedded in the brain" Marion Bond, Blandinsville Marshall, was called to the scene to investigate and identified the body. Charles Barrier who had spent the day drinking with Langford was charged with the murder. A pistol of the type used to shoot Langford was found in his home. At trial, several witnesses were called who had seen or heard Barrier in the company of Langford that day, or who saw Barrier speeding away from Blandinsville in his buggy about the time of the murder. "Thomas Fisher who lives close to the scene of the murder, testified that he and his wife heard the shot distinctly at between fifteen and twenty minutes after eight o'clock and at the same moment the quick rattle of a buggy as of someone leaving the place at a furious pace." At the conclusion of the trial, the jury of local residents found Barrier guilty of the murder of Asa Langford.

Notes - She was one of a family of seven children, but leaves only one sister living, Martha J. Bond, and the following brothers and sisters deceased; William, Milton, John, and Nathan Farris and Nancy Fisher. [18]
