Sighting of John Dillinger 1934
"Mr. Jack Kaylor said that he once frequented the Ford garage and often saw a pamphlet that was printed, in those days of Dillinger. On the front, it said: "Will they catch Dillinger?" ", then it opened to read: "Not 'til they get him out of a Ford V-8!" Mr. Kaylor once told Joe Pinkston about the pamphlet that he searched high and low and finally found one at a Ford Co. in the northern part of Indiana. He then sent a copied one to Mr. Kaylor. Then Mr. Kaylor told of the time when he and his brother Bob were driving their wagon and team of horses along Morgan Street in Martinsville, on April, 7, 1934, when a new dark green Ford pulled in behind them from the Old Morgantown Road. Mr. Kaylor was riding on the back of the wagon and found himself looking right at John Dillinger. He got his brother's attention and ask him if it was Dillinger behind them. Bob looked closely and agreed that it was. Dillinger saw them and grinned and waved. It was said that Dillinger had escaped from Crown Point and had been hiding in Brown County. The following week, the Indianapolis paper printed the story that John Dillinger had eaten fried chicken at his folks' house in Mooresville on Sunday and he had been driving a dark green Ford with Illinois license plates. So it was said that "it had been Dillinger" that the Kaylors had seen that day in a dark green Ford, with Illinois license plates. It was April, and on July 26, 1934, John Dillinger was shot and killed. Mr. Kaylor still recalls the vivid sighting of John Dillinger."Death 19 Apr 1982 Trafalgar, Johnson Co., IN
