- To be fully vetted: William Henry Kirkham was the son of Henry Kirkham (1812-1898) and Elizabeth Hinkle (1813-1847). William H. Kirkham served in the 28th Illinois Infantry, Co. G during the Civil War. He was discharged on Aug. 26, 1864. In Schuyler County, Illinois on March 20, 1866, William H. Kirkham married Sarah Ellen Hoskinson (1847-1913),daughter of Civil War veteran Riley M. Hoskinson [73rd regiment, Illinois volunteers] and Martha Fisher. In 1870 William H. and Sarah Ellen Kirkham were living in Milford, Oak Grove Precinct, Seward County, Nebraska. William's profession was as a farmer. Their first child was born in Nebraska, their second child was born in Illinois, and their last two children were born in Oregon. In 1880 William and Sarah Ellen Kirkham were living in Table Rock, Jackson County, Oregon. By 1900 they were living in Prineville, Crook County, Oregon. After Sarah Ellen's death in 1913, William Henry Kirkham continued to live on his farm with his unmarried daughter Martha Kirkham (1869-?), his unmarried son Henry Kirkham (1871-1938), and his son-in-law Samuel Gulliford (1884-?) and daughter Mary (Kirkham) Guilliford (1882-?), and his grandchildren Birdie Guilliford, Opal Guilliford, and Dale Guilliford (1915-1981). William Henry Kirkham is buried in Juniper Haven Cemetery beside his wife Ellen (Hoskinson) Kirkham and his sons Henry Kirkham and William W. Kirkham.
