Alva Peak slashes his neck 1913
Alva Peak slashes his neck 1913
An odd story involving Jesse Cowser and his daughter Tracie: "Alva Peak, a young man living at Ninth and Sunny Slope, has a self-inflicted cut on his neck. He wounded, himself with a pocket knife last night in front of the J. A. Cowser home at 213 Constitution Street; and the trouble occurred about the time Miss Tracie Cowser was returning home from the Red Men's dance, at the Wimgam. Miss Cowser, returning from the dance with a friend, found Mr. Peak, and after a short conversation with Miss Cowser, he cut himself as indicated. He says that they tried to keep her father quiet, but that it was impossible. The young man has been paying some attention to the young woman, and in talking with the Gazette over the telephone this afternoon indicated that he was not a prime favorite with the father...The pocket knife which has an atrociously dull little blade, has been given a place among the relics of the city."

    Miss Cowser's side 1913
Tracie Cowser's side of the Alva Peak neck slashing affair in which she corrects much of the original story: "Miss Cowser's father, J. A. Cowser says he never had objected to young Mr. Peak's attentions lo. his daughter, and that the young man always was welcome at their home....Also, Miss Cowser objects to the word, "slash," and says the wound on the young man's neck was merely a "scratch. With these corrections, Miss Cowser indicated that the story, in the main, was true. She said she and Mr. Peak had had some trouble lately, and as for him "paying her some attention - huh, we've been going together for two years"
