  	From her obituary: "Mrs Martha Jane Ray...passed away at home of her daughter, Mrs O. B. Fisher at one o. clock on Sunday morning, April 2, 1927, aged 68 years 18 months and 18 days. She had been enjoying the best of health and cheerfully doing her work and earning her livelihood till within a few days of her sudden death. Only four days before she expressed to a neighbor her thanks, to her creator for the splendid health she enjoyed at her advanced age. On Thursday she was stricken with appendicitis which spite of careful nursing and medical care terminated all the cares and labors of her long and busy life and brought to her the long and blessed sleep that knows no waking. "Martha Jane Hardy was born in Fulton county Illinois on July 15, 1858, Here she went to school, helped with the household duties and grew to young womanhood. On March 17, 1876 she was married to William Ray and they made their home in Fulton county till about 20 years ago, when the family moved to Blandinsville. Ten children were born in the family of whom six are still living - Joseph, and Charles of Smithshire; John of Blandinsville; Thomas of Roseville: Mrs. Chas. Chenowith of Marietta, Ill.; and Mrs Minnie Fisher of Blandinsville. Six years ago her husband, passed away and with her daughter Minnie he took up the burden of keeping the home. When the daughter was married she still supported her home whose door was always open with welcome to her returning children and friends. "She was a devout member of the Methodist church... "Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 1:30 P. M. on Monday, April 4, the Rev. A. H. Nothdurft officiating. The interment was in the Glade City cemetery."
