- From her obituary: Mrs. John Daugherty died at her home at Brownville NE, 7 May 1911 after ten years of invalidism. She was born at Eastbrook, Lawrence Co. PA on 31 Jan 1835. She moved with her parents to Illinois in 1849 and was married 14 Oct 1860 to John Daugherty. She and her husband moved to Nemaha Co. NE in 1873 and thereafter lived either in Brownville or the vicinity. Mrs. Daugherty lived in the house in which she died for twenty-six years. She was a devoted member of the Methodist church, which she joined early in life and was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are I still living: Mrs. James Percy, Wilbur NE; T. R. Daugherty, Auburn NE; Mrs. Rilla Wheeldon, Brownville NE; Mrs. Lizzie Headley, Filley NE; Mrs. Ada Herr, Auburn NE; J. H. Daugherty, Johnson and C. L. Daugherty of Torrington WY. All of the children were at her bedside when she died with the exception of Clarence, who had visited two weeks previously. One of the sons, in speaking of her, said that all of the children do not remember of her ever having uttered a cross or impatient word to them. The funeral took place 9 May 1911 with services at the home conducted by the Rev. Sherman. She was interred in Brownsville/Walnut Grove cemetery. Like her mother, and her sister, Mrs. Henry Sanders, the pall bearers at the funeral were her grandsons.
