HOSKINSON, Clarissa Ann
Abt 1849 - 1921 (72 years)-
Name HOSKINSON, Clarissa Ann - To be fully verified: Clarissa A. Hoskinson was the daughter of Civil War veteran Riley M. Hoskinson (1819-1905) and Martha Fisher (1819-1899). She was often known as Clara. The Hoskinson family moved from western Pennsylvania to Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois in 1853, and then to Burlingame Township, Osage County, Kansas in April, 1866. On March 19, 1867 in Shawnee County, Kansas, Clarissa A. Hoskinson married Charles M. Garrison, son of Samuel Young Garrison and Margaret B. McNutt. Charles was born June, 1836 in Rockville, Parke County, Indiana and died July 20, 1918. Charles M. Garrison was the first of Clarissa's four husbands. Clarissa was the second of Charles M. Garrison's three wives. Charles and Clarissa at least separated, and probably already divorced by 1870. Charles and Clarissa (Hoskinson) Garrison had one child, Edith Garrison (born June, 1868 in Kansas). Edith Garrison was raised by her grandparents Riley M. and Martha Hoskinson. Edith Garrison married first Carlton Augustine Peabody (born Dec. 31,1858 in Topsfield, MA; died March 22, 1888 in Fort Klamath, Oregon) and secondly John B. Wood (born Sept., 1862 in Ohio). By 1872 Clara Garrison had married David L. McCabe, son of James B. and Jane (Lee) McCabe. David L. McCabe was born Feb. 2, 1831 in Ohio and died April 9, 1907 in Topeka, Kansas. David and Clara McCabe had seven children including a daughter M. L. McCabe (born circa 1872 in Kansas); a son W. D. McCabe (born circa 1876 in California); a son F. R. McCabe (born circa 1877 in California); a daughter C. McCabe born circa 1879 in Oregon); a son Robert C. McCabe (born circa 1884 in Oregon); and a daughter Gladys McCabe (born July, 1889 in Oregon). After their divorce, Clara McCabe married her third husband Leander E. "Lee" Morgan in 1896. Leander E. Morgan was born in Sept., 1845 in Missouri and died Feb. 23, 1925 in Oregon. In 1900 Clara and Leander Morgan and Gladys McCabe were living in Umatilla County, Oregon. Clara was the mother of 8 children, all living as of 1900. Leander E. and Clara Morgan were divorced in 1907 in Marion County, Oregon. In 1910 Clara McCabe was living with her son Robert C. McCabe and his family in Wilson, Kansas. Clara moved to Redlands, California in 1911 and married her fourth husband Hans Rosenquest (born 1855 in Sweden; died after 1930). In 1920 Hans and Clara Rosenquest were living in Redlands, San Bernardino County, California. The funeral service of Clarissa A. (Hoskinson) Garrison McCabe Morgan Rosenquest was held at Cortner Bros. Chapel in Redlands with Rev. S. F. Langford officiating. She is buried alone under the name of Clara A. Rosenquest in Hillside Memorial Park.

Family 4 ROSENQUEST/ROSENQUIST, Hans, b. 1855, Sweden Marriage 1911 San Bernardino Co., CA [18, 19] Rose introduction; then strangers wed 1911
Variations of this article ran in several newspapers local to Redlands, CA where the couple settled: "SAN BERNARDINO, Nov. 24.-The exclamation, "Is that you, Hans?" caused a curious crowd at the Santa Fe to witness the closing chapter of a little romance in which Hans Rosenquest of Redlands and Clara A. McCabe of Neodosha, Kan., figured. The couple had never seen each other before; but prior to her leaving the east to marry Rosenquest it had been arranged that he would meet her at the Santa Fe here, the identification to be established by pink roses which each would wear. When the bride-to-be stepped from the train Hans was there to meet her. Those, roses had done their duty. A momentary hesitation to gaze upon each other and the couple hied for the county clerks office. The license gave their ages as 56 years each, and they were married by Justice of the Peace G. M. Pittman."They had never met before 1911
Similar reports ran in Kansas newspapers local to Neodesha: "Two mommoth American Beauty roses played an important part in the romance and subsequent marriage of Hans Rosenquest of this city and Clara N. McCabe, of Neodesha, Kansas, who met yesterday for the first time. Uncle Sam played Cupid in their courtship, which was carried on via the postoffice route. Finally the letters became so promising that a proposal was made by the gallant Hans to fair Clara, and by return mail came the reply of the happy and significant word if three letters. Then came the time for Clara's departure, and with it final arrangements which included the plan that on arriving in San Bernardino, where Hans was to meet his prospective bride, both should wear over their hearts a huge red rose (Note in the previous article the roses were pink!) This means of identification was an effectual one and when they first caught sight of each other, there was a single moment of general survey on the part of each and then there was long and fond embrace, mutual greetings and soon the happy pair wended their way to the clerk's office where they were supplied with a license and continued on their way over to Judge Pitman's office, where they were made one by the shortest route."Family ID F626 Group Sheet | Family Chart Last Modified 7 Dec 2023
