The following images link to the various documents contained in William Fisher's Military record. These include muster records, a prisoner of war record and a Certificate of Disability for Discharge.
William enlisted at Brandonville, Va. on June 25, 1861 to serve three years in the 3d Virginia Regiment of United States Volunteers. On or before July 15, 1862, he was captured by the Confederate Army presumably during General Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign . On July 15, William was admitted as a prisoner of war to the Union Hotel Hospital, Winchester, Virginia. On July 19, he was transferred to Union Army's McKim's Mansion General Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. On July 27, 1862 he was found unfit for duty due to general disability. William was discharged from the military due to disability at McKim's Mansion on August 4, 1862.
