Mrs. Nellie Jane Johnston Called By Death Angel

While not unexpected, the death of Mrs. Willie Johnston, which occurred at the family home on St. Marys at 10:40 last Thursday night, was a sad affair. Mrs. Johnston had suffered from tuberculosis for about a year and while she had received the best of medical skill and nursing the death angel had cast the shadow over her which only the resurrection can raise.

Mrs. Johnston has highly esteemed by all her acquaintances and the sympathy of a large circle of friends are with the afflicted husband and children.

Nellie Jane, daughter of Jas. M. (James Martin) and Laura Kaiser, was born near Cherokee, Crawford county, Kansas, Aug. 7, 1881 and departed this life at her home near St. Mary's, April 13, 1922 at the age of 40 years, 8 months and 26 days.

On Jan. 9, 1901, she was united in marriage to Willie Johnston who survives with the following children: Laura, Ralph, Wayne, Harold, and Carl, all at home. Mildred Pauline died at the age of 10 months. She is also survived by her father, mother and two sisters, Mrs. Perry Williams of Colmar and Mrs. Leslie Larson of Colchester.
At the age of 15 years she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Good Hope (IL) and has lived a faithful and consistent life under its teachings.

She was a most patient sufferer never murmuring or complaining until the end. She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind and loving daughter and sister and will be sadly missed not only by members of her own family, but by a host of relatives and friends as well.

Rev. J.W. Gillespie had charge of the funeral services at the St. Mary's Baptist church Sunday, April 16, at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Cynthia Johnson had charge of the music.

Her body was laid to rest in the St. Mary's cemetery until the day breaks and the shadows fly away.
