Moneta Marie Mathena, 79, of Macomb, died at 4:45 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009, at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.
She was born February 13, 1930, in Good Hope, to Emory C. and Carrie Mae SmithYoung. She married Basil Mathena on July 3, 1950, in Good Hope. He preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Melinda Fischer; four brothers, Emory Young Jr., Francis Eugene "Tuffy" Young, Dean Young, Jack Young; and one sister, Marlene Louderman.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Sipes and Marla J. Selby, both of Macomb; one son, Basil D. "Butch" Mathena, Moline; three Adopted children, Kirk Mathena, Jasper, Ind., Michael Mathena, Carthage, Carrie DeLozier, Green Valley, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She attended Good Hope schools. She worked at King Seeley, Globe American and at Western Illinois University in food service. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sat., June 13, 2009, at Good Hope Cemetery, with Pastor Wally Holt officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 12 at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home.
