    • Census lists Mathias Fisher's household as including: one "Free White Males 26 to 45"- not obvious who this is; sons John, Abel and Thomas were all married with children by this time and son Thompson would have been only ca. 20 years old; one "Free White Males 45 and over" - Mathias himself; one "Free White Females 10 to 16" - likely daughter Rachel Fisher who would have been 14 in 1820; and one "Free White Females 45 and over" - wife Martha Thompson.

CENSUS 1830  Ligonier Township, Westmoreland Co., PA Find all individuals with events at this location  [6
    • Census lists as living in Mathias Fisher household one "Free White Males 5 to 9" - impossible to define who this might be but perhaps a grandson or nephew; one "Free White Males 70 to 79" - Mathias himself; and two "Free White Females 20 to 29." One is likely Mathias' youngest daughter Rachel who married Silas Stewart as his second wife, and therefore could have married later than typical for the times. Silas' first wife Mary Hendricks died in 1823 so Rachel's marriage definitely occured after 1823. The other female must be a relative. Mathias' elder daughter Mary is presumably living with husband Berekiah Stewart who is listed in the 1830 census for Derry Township.

    • Mathias Fisher married Martha Thompson, who died August, 1828. Her father was a staunch Presbyterian and objected to the marriage on the grounds that Mathias Fisher had never been baptized. However, she had no such scruples and left her father’s house, never to enter it again. Following the marriage they settled on a part of the old Fisher farm. [16]
    • He paid his addresses to Miss Martha Thompson, but her father being a staunch Presbyterian, objected to the match because Mr. Fisher had never been baptized. Miss Thompson, however, had no such scruples of conscience, but ran away, as they called it then; she left her father’s house and never entered it again. [17]
