    • Census lists Abel Fisher's household as two people: one "Free White Males 70-79" - Abel himself; and one "Free White Females 30 to 39." The female is likely Abel's niece Mary McDowell who never married, is known to have taken care of Abel late in his life, and who inherited most of Abel's estate upon his death in 1838. Mary would have been 32 in 1830.

  • Notes 
    • Mary McDowell (spelled McDowel in his will) inherited considerable property from uncle Abel Fisher on his death in 1838. Specifically: "I give and bequeath to my niece Mary McDowel ninety acres of the plantation or tract of land whereon I now reside and the same held in common with my brother Mathias and myself containing altogether two hundred and eighty two acres. The said ninety acres to be struck off the south west side or part of the whole adjoining the heirs of Michael Fry lands of James Campbell and lands of George Kern to be enjoyed by her the said Mary McDowel her heirs and assigns forever." Mary also inherited the personal effects of Abel as well as a share of Abel Fisher's orchard: "And I also give and bequeath to my said niece Mary McDowel the whole of all my personal estate of what kind soever. And I do further allow that the said Mary McDowel have equal privilege of the first produced from the orchard heretofore known by the name of my orchard." Mary McDowell's brother Matthias (spelled Mathias in the will) was appointed executor: "And I do nominate and appoint Mathias McDowel Executor of this my last will hereby revoking all former wills by me made."
